Summertime Eats: Outside Venues around Greater Portland

The sun is out and the weather is perfect for grabbing some food outside. If you decide not to pack a picnic and head for a hike around Wolfe’s Neck or opt for a blanket on the East End, here are some options for places to eat outside around the Greater Portland area.

Don’s Lunch: They aren’t just open for lunch so whether it is your Wednesday lunch break and you just need some fresh air or its 1am on Saturday night and you’re heading home with a need for some munchies after the bar, Don’s Lunch is where you should stop. This Westbrook, Maine lunch truck was cool before Lunch Trucks long before Portland, Maine even allowed Lunch Trucks to hit their streets. With a simple menu of burgers, hot dogs, fries & clamcakes, it won’t take too much money out of your pocket to pick up something tasty here. Really hungry? Try the Big One, Don’s double cheeseburger.
Located at 517 Main Street, Westbrook just past the railroad tracks.

El Rayo Taqueria: The brightly colored El Rayo sticks out along York Street in Portland, Maine. El Rayo offers a yummy selection of Mexican food, Tapas and cocktails. Grab a bite Monday-Friday between 4pm-6pm and you can not select from their array of Taco and Rice & Bean Bowl options, but also sip on a $5 Margarita.
Located at 101 York Street, Portland near the corner of York and High Street

The Thirsty Pig: Sausage is not just pork in a casing these days. The Thirsty Pig has a sausage menu every foodie should try. Pick from their homemade sausages: Blueberry-Chicken, Thai Chili, Lithuanian Kielbasa, even Vegan are just some of the options available. From there, choose to eat your sausage on a bun, over some greens or with an addition toppings. The toppings menu is even longer than the sausage options: from plain old ketchup to feta, fried cheddar, or even pulled pork. Wash it all down with a locally-brewed Shipyard Beer and you’ll be happy you picked The Thirsty Pig.
37 Exchange Street, Portland

The Lobster Shack: Looking for Outdoor seating with a view? The Lobster Shack at Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth boasts one of the best ocean views of Maine. Grab a famous lobster roll or even a simple clam strip basket and enjoy the seaside sights. Open everyday between April 1st and the end of October, The Lobster Shack has a diverse menu of seafood favorites. At the end of your food trip, drive around the corner to walk the ocean shore at Two Lights State park.
